Announcements:

  • MLHC General Coalition meeting:  Thursday, Jan 13, 3:30-5:00, CORE/El Centro
  • New MHAT meeting location starting in January: 1st floor Community Education Room.
  • Reminder invitation: Join mivoz.com!  Put your events on their calendar!  Looking for people who are involved with MLHC to create a profile for your agency, and promote your events.  Meeting on January 7, 10-11:30, at CORE, 3rd floor, for people who are looking to lead or co-lead their agency’s efforts to be on mivoz.  Contact Stephanie with questions.  In the meantime, if you have events you want posted, you can e-mail them to andrea@mivoz.com.
  • Spanish Resource Cards:  1000 cards for $75 with Ursula’s contact.  Leslie will make changes to the card, and ask Cara from MHA to update it, and then it will be sent to Ursula.  Ursula will try to get them printed by Jan 13th General Coalition meeting.  Send any updates to Leslie by Monday, 12-20-10.
  • Jennifer at Our Space is about to do a training for peer support specialists and REALLY wants bilingual people–need to be fluent in both English and Spanish.  Leslie will get us the details.

WarmLine

  • Leslie’s meeting with Lynn Malofsky:  Lynn really wants us to give it a shot to follow WarmLine model–their place, their training, everything.
  • Training starts Jan 11: 5 weeks, 6-9 p.m., stipend $40 cash, Lynn wants as many Spanish-speakers as we can get, we can get interpretation if needed–Leslie has a contact.
  • Training requirements: fill out application first, then Lynn interviews them.
  • We can make this work with Spanish-speakers–Lynn says.  Don’t need to be bilingual to be a “warmie.”
  • Have to be a mental health consumer.
  • After training, the commitment is: 2 shifts per month, one meeting per month; $10 stipend for every shift.
  • Leslie feels it’s good for people to go out to BHD because of support–supervisors out there, team feel, crisis cases.
  • Cultural sensitivity: WarmLine calls are 15 minutes–very rigid (Martina says).  Is Lynn aware of that?  Leslie says yes–Lynn wants all the current warmies to be more exposed to culture…  It will be interesting to see what happens with Spanish-speakers–will it be hard for them to stick to 15 minutes?
  • Becca is Lynn’s assistant in the office.
  • Leslie is going to attend the training.  She has one person in mind to go through the training.
  • Sylvia has someone in mind, but childcare is an issue.  Sylvia will e-mail Lynn to ask if childcare is any sort of possibility.
  • Gabriela has a couple people in mind.
  • Gabriela will be point person (while Leslie is gone on vacation), send out her e-mail, and then will send out an attachment when she gets it from Lynn, and then will post it on Atrium.
  • WarmLine–Linea de apoyo (Spanish tagline)

2011 Objectives and Goals

  • Support the Spanish WarmLine, ongoing training, follow-up with those who are doing it, recruit more warmies.
  • Build access to support services in the community: MiVoz, resource card, MHA.
  • Half an hour radio program on LaGranD–stories, consumers, interviews.
