Follow-up from meeting with Milwaukee County Behavioral Health

  • One positive outcome of meeting: Sylvia Cortez is now a member of our Action Team.
  • Goal: “By Dec 31, 2010, MHAT will outline and make recommendations to BHD to advocate for and ensure Latino patient rights.”
  • Leslie to coordinate with Amy Lorenz to present training on cultural sensitivity to MUTT & intake/inpatient social workers.
  • Desireen Van is the point of contact for concerns.  Contact information can be found on the grievance brochure.  Contact her first; if additional response is needed, then contact additional staff (i.e. John Chianelli or Amy Lorenz).
  • Can Milwaukee County Behavioral Health apply for AEM (Alien Emergency Medicaid) for suicidal patients?  Apparently Medicaid can’t be billed for services provided by Institute for Mental Disease.  Only hospital ERs can bill AE for “life-threatening” illnesses.  This issue to be addressed for clarification.  John Chianelli made remark at meeting that they will work on this issue internally.
  • Discussed concerns related to Spanish translation in BHD’s Recovery Orientation Packet, ROI’s, and grievance form in the Recovery Orientation Packet.  Tabled for future meeting.

Warmline and peer support specialists

  • Warmline and peer support specialists discussions were tabled for next Action Team meeting.
