Update on the Mental Health Task Force Meeting
Peter explained that Milwaukee area private hospitals and the Mental Health Division are working together in redesigning how mental health services are provided. The Mental Health Task Force has been pushing for involvement of consumers and community in the redesign plan. The redesign team is consulting with a national group, Health Service Redesign Institute (HSRI). Three meetings are planned: Sept 8th, 4 to 6 p.m.; Sept 9th, 4 to 6 p.m., both at Independence First. October 20th 4 to 6 p.m. at United Community Center.
Discussion on how MHAT wants to participate
Group agreed to use the word “collaboration” when working in partnership with the Mental Health Task Force. It was noted that collaboration with the MHTF is in line with MHAT goals. A request was made that the wording be changed to “collaboration” in future flyers inviting/informing about work done by the Mental Health Task Force (Peter aware of the change needed). Group talked about the possibility of having the meeting on Oct 20th conducted in Spanish with translation in English. All members agreed that it should be done this way to open the doors for consumers and community to voice their opinions. All Action Team members will be present to share with consumers/community the information about the meeting and invite people to participate. Leslie will invite the health promoters. Katherine will coordinate with Peter the flyer’s wording after consulting with Steering Committee. Peter will check with Independence First to see if they have head pieces and material to do simultaneous translation.
Update on contacting Milwaukee County
Martina tried to contact Jim Kobicek with no success. Martina will continue to work on setting a meeting. Leslie and Gabriela will facilitate meeting.
Other
Peter has no new information about the status of peer support specialists at the County. Brenda informed that they have two. Wisconsin recently passed a certification process for peer specialists. Peter will find out about the exact law that states that health services need to be provided with interpreter services.
Stephanie agreed to go with Katherine to the Mental Health Task Force meeting on September 8th.
Bookmark
Martina provided English mental health bookmarks to all present and explained that Mental Health America will put together a Spanish bookmark. Next Tuesday, September 1st , 10:30 to 12, Leslie and Katherine will meet to start working on Spanish bookmark. If members of the team are aware of resources that need to be added to this bookmark, please share information with Leslie. MHA is open to adding other resources in the bookmark. The goal is to have the bookmark ready for end of the year.
