The Mental Health Action Team started out as the Preventive Education Action Team. Under this topic, we began with four areas of interest: workforce development, cultural competency and sensitivity, patient engagement, and a holistic approach to health. We engaged in a few activities to determine which area of interest we wanted to focus on first, and we came to the consensus of focusing on a holistic approach to Latino health. Thus, we became the Mental Health Action Team.
The membership of our Action Team includes organizations such as Sixteenth Street Community Health Center, Walker’s Point Community Clinic, Council for the Spanish Speaking, Sojourner Family Peace Center, Mental Health America of Wisconsin, NAMI—Greater Milwaukee, UMOS, and Disability Rights WI.
Some of our collaborations include working with the Milwaukee Mental Health Task Force, the Milwaukee Latino Mental Health Institute, and the “Community-Based Behavioral Activation for Latinos with Depression” project with UWM and Sixteenth Street Community Health Center.
We welcome any interested parties to attend our meetings. We usually meet on the third Thursday of the month at 9:00 a.m. Come join us!
